Lump in my throat. Sweet.

In defense of analog. Sound City is a reminder that at the end of the day, pure talent and passion outshines digital manipulation and the push for perfection. Thank you Dave Grohl.

For those who don’t know, sometimes I get to exercise my video skills by assisting and second shooting video for the multi-talented Kevin Chin. A few months ago, I got to help out with Connie and Peter’s wedding on Treasure Island which included traditional Chinese lion dancing and a trolley ride across the Bay Bridge. My favorite part of shooting video is capturing the little details and candid moments. All these smaller parts help make the final story of the wedding day so much richer.

This past Saturday, fabulous photographer (and videographer) Kevin Chin, ask me to assist his wedding videography team. It wasn’t the first time I’ve assisted him with videography but it was the first time I got to see his amazingly talented editor Phil do a same day edit. Watching the process before my eyes was impressive and the final result was beautifully edited. It was so great to see our work immediately put together in a touching narrative for our couple to be played at the reception. Definitely worth all the hard work!

Joni and Chris also asked me to do a little video montage of Gibby. It took awhile to find the right song to go with the video, but I think “Kooks” by David Bowie was the perfect choice! I can’t wait to see little Gibby grow up!

Earlier this year, Kevin Chin asked me to assist him with shooting a wedding. The only catch was, he needed me as a videographer. While I’m mainly a still photographer, I have tried my hand at video from time to time. Yet, the idea of second video shooting a whole wedding seemed a bit daunting! Luckily, under Kevin’s guidance and a few trial runs in his studio, the Josephine and Milo’s big day was captured without a hitch. (By the way, I have to pay some huge respect to all the videographers I’ve worked with at weddings. Not being as mobile and lugging around significantly heavier equipment is no joke. Y’all are amazing!)

“Diary”, one of war photojournalist’s Tim Hetherington’s last films. RIP Tim Hetherington & Chris Hondros. Your work is essential, moving and powerful. Thank you for doing what few can.

One of my life goals: To see the aurora borealis in person. (Even if it means braving -25 Celsius weather.)

Mind-blowing.
