When I first came across Wendy MacNaughton’s work through 7x7 Magazine, I was drawn to her ability to tell compelling stories and capture fine detail with such simplicity. Her illustrations have a very familiar feel to me, reminiscent of children book illustrations that I grew up with. (Specifically, Shel Silverstein.) Her most recent entry at The Rumpus about the 6th and Mission neighborhood in her “Meanwhile” documentary series is so beautifully and poignantly written. Her quiet observations moved me more than any lengthy journalistic article could.
